Welcome back to another edition of the Brilliant Maps newsletter.

Today is the 23rd anniversary of 9/11. And I’d like to pay my respects to all the victims and their families.

It was such a horrible tragedy for thousands of Americans and other people around the world (as the map at the bottom will show)

I’m sure most of you remember where you were that day. I was in my first week at the University of Toronto studying history and politics. And I clearly remember the feeling that the world would never be the same again.

And in many ways it hasn’t.

Two subsequent wars and even more lives lost.

And then just yesterday the one of the candidates for president claimed that people in Springfield were eating cats…

We truly live in the most bizarre timeline.

And with that on to the maps:

Countries That Lost Citizens On 9/11

In total, citizens from 62 countries died on 9/11. Moreover, 9/11 is that not only was it the worst terrorist attack in American history, but also in British history.

More British nationals (67 victims) lost their lives on 9/11 than any single terrorist attack during the troubles, the Lockerbie bombing or 7/7.
